About IFDVL.ORG
IFDVL.ORG is my, Roy Butler's, web site for
coordinating my folk dance video collection. There are two primary
areas
on the site:
- The actual
International
Folk Dance Video List
- and the Commercial for
International Folk
Dance.
Most of the videos on the site
represent my ongoing project of video recording local Sacramento,
California folk dance events and posting the dances to the web. Most of
the videos were filmed with a stationary camera because I love to dance
to much to be stuck behind it at a fun party. My wife Patty shot the
video from the Romanian Parties. If you have questions or
comments please contact me
Roy Butler (click link for email).
Where did the International Folk Dance
Video list .org come from.
The project has a number of sources that led me to start
it.
Loui Tucker's article in Lets Dance WE NEED A
COMMERCIAL!
The taught dance list for my dance class Social Dances Of the
World
The entertainment application for the
California State Fair.
Loui's article suggest that someone start collecting
video to put together a commercial for folk dance a hobby that I love
and enjoy.
I also wanted to add video links to the taught dance
list on our Social Dances of the World page. I found that the dances in
videos available on the web at the time I started which were mostly
from Europe had major cultural differences from the way they were done
in Northern California.
Every year, I coordinate the
Sacramento International Folk Dance and Arts Council (SIFDAC)
dancing at the California State Fair. As part of the registration the
fair asks for video of past performances. The first time they asked for
this I had to get video from one of the Tance El Dorado (Local teen
dance group) parents. That year
2006 I got my friend David to shoot the performance with my little
camcorder. It did a good job with the video but the overly loud sound
over whelmed the little microphone. The by the next year I had bought
my JVC 20 gig hard drive video camera. The video it shoots is warmer
and the sound is much better
2007.
I first posted my video to Google Video, but I
eventually found Brightcove which supports higher resolution video and
allows you to produce specialty video players.
The
2006 California State Fair Page which was one of my first attempts
to use video on a web site contains both Brightcove and Google video
The video on the dance list site is there for anyone to
use to support folk dancing contact me (Roy) if you need
help on how to use it.
The Videos
The rights to the videos and photos
posted on IFDVL.ORG are held by original videographer or
photographer. They are available for use in promoting
international folk dancing. If you make use of the videos or
photos, please include a link to http://ifdvl.org/
on the page that contains the video or photo and add ifdvl.org to your
links page.
Get Posted on IFDVL.ORG
There are a number of ways to get your
group, activity, or origination onto
http://ifdvl.org/ .
If your group has a web page and it is
International Folk related send me your address and a small 144 pixel
wide by 108 pixel tall jpg or gif logo (see sidebar buttons for
example) and I will add it the appropriate links page as they developed.
I will create a page for your group, event
or origination on http://ifdvl.org/ ,
see Instructors List or Performing Groups,
if I have video, which I can upload to the dance list and/or edit
into commercial for international folk dance.
There are two ways that you can give me
video.
If you have preexisting video contact
me (Roy)
and we will discuss how you can get it to me. By doing this you
give me the right to post it to Brightcove and use it on the different
pages of http://ifdvl.org/ and
make it available for people to promoting international folk dancing.
The second way is to invite Patty and I to
record your event or group. The video recorded will then be mine
to use as needed. You need to get permission from the people
involved with the event for me to post the video. If your event
is more than a hour away from Loomis, CA we will needed to
discuss lodging and transportation. Lodging is a bed for Patty
and I and our two dogs. Transportation will usually be some money for
gas.
If you want to maintain complete control of
your video, but still want a page on ifdvl.org contact me and I will
work up a cost for web hosting and page development.
How IFDVL.ORG is Funded
IFDVL.ORG has received a grant from the
Folk Dance
Federation to support the video projects.
There is some
income from the adds on the site. We also happily accept
donations.
